PLEASE BE FOREWARNED: As they used to say at the beginning of Dragnet, “The names have been changed to protect the innocent.” Same applies here; as much as I want to share my friends’ experiences, I also want to respect their privacy. It is also worth noting, especially to those who are dear to my heart, that I have taken some literary liberties, meaning not every single word of every single thing is exactly as it happened. And so, clarifications being made, and apologies to anyone who has been hurt by what I have written, please continue…
I’m 43 years old. Pretty much just out of the X Generation and on the tail-end of the so-called Baby Boomers. In fact, I pretty much feel as though I don’t have a “generation” to call my own. Nonetheless, I’ve not ever been shy about computers or the internet. And I’ve had many many many interesting (some would say bizarre, even) experiences while navigating the World Wide Web Dating Pool.
Then somehow, I began to be the “go to” person amongst other single people around my age who were seeking companionship online. I answered my friends’ questions as best as I could and as honestly as law allows. (It’s been quite a ride!)
Several months ago, a friend (whose online relationship ended exactly has predicted – he was married) told me I should write a book about my online experiences. Instead, I thought I’d rather blog out the various and sundy experiences we’ve all had (with permission, of course; and be sure, names have been changed to protect guilty and innocent!).
I, by no means, claim to be a relationship expert. But I do believe there are some universal truths about online dating, or just dating in general, that we just don’t quite know how to muddle through. And that is the story of how this wonderful blog page began.
Participate if you like, or at least I hope you enjoy the ride!
